As I pass through the mid 20′s on my main, it’s becoming more apparent that traveling between storyline to quest has become a requirement. While early on doing cross-chapter questing was something for fun, post 20 it’s a must. Sticking to a single storyline without intense grinding leaves you far too low as you progress in chapters. Receiving quest rewards you can’t use for 3+ levels is just silly.

The variance in terrain, creature types and flavor from switching zones makes the PvE climb a less monotonous experience. An added benefit is the additional loot you will discover. It was a surprise to me to find that the loot from the different storyline complement each other so well…it’s almost as if they intended for it to be done that way.

The mail system is horrid. Mythic really needs to spend some time playing WoW (with the postal addon) to understand what a truly terrible job they have done on this feature. The overall interaction is painfully slow but here are some more specific gripes;

- A 20 second forced delay between sending mail is great to prevent spammers, but when you are mailing between characters on the same account or in the same guild? cmon.

- Only one item attached per mail means that you are forced to send multiple mails to send multiple items…each with a 20 second delay. Given how many items must be sent between characters to even attempt any crafting (I’ll get to this another time) it gets annoying in a hurry.

- No auto-complete for the recipient field for names in your guild or friends. Additionally having the field simply remain populated with the previous recipients name would be peachy.

- The selected mail shifts around in the list. You have a list of mail in your inbox, you open one and remove the attachment, click delete. The mail window behind has selected a different, likely unread message and attempts to delete that one. Thankfuly there is a warning dialog when attempting to delete unread mail. This may simply be a bug, on top of everything else it just adds more hurt.

Stonetroll Keep was among those pulling a vanishing act tonight. It was clear that the Order players assaulting the keep had no such problem as they were following the path up the ramp and couldn’t pursue through the invisible walls. I was able to melee those that were on the ground (really on the ground floor and not those that simply looked as if they were) and couldn’t interact with any of the friendly NPC.

Were I a DPS class, this would have been an epic night for renown. Since it doesn’t happen to everyone, you have to assume that it’s a client issue. If it’s a client issue that means it has serious exploit potential. Lets hope this gets fixed sooner rather than later.

The headstart has ended and from the customer perspective was a roaring success. Introducing players in waves while at the same time giving them the perception of a reward was a brilliant strategy. The pre-order revenue surely did much to boost confidence for the bean counters at EA.

The traditional first day slam was avoided by having production servers ease into full capacity. Two waves of pre-release players meant that by the time the full release day came, much of the headstart crop was already into T2 zones.

Last night at prime-time was the first time the queue system was visible to me. Small queues at this point are a welcome sign of a healthy population count. Player count balance is so critical to a game of this type, too thin and a server or faction could be crippled. The Mythic team seems to be monitoring the loads carefully, releasing new servers only as needed.

Only gripe I had with the queue was the need to re-queue when switching characters on the same account…what a drag.

Queue, the hairstyle
